Issue 19 of Paper Chained has just been released on our website, and posted to all subscribers in custody on our physical mailing list. This issue is our first to show contributions from prisoners in the Phillipines and Japan. Our front cover art is by Dandy at Manilla City Jail, and our back cover art is by 'D' at Yokohama prison in Japan.
We're very excited to also share with you our first report on touring the inside a prison outside Australia. Paper Chained editor Damien Linnane was able to tour both Davao City Jail and Manilla City Jail in the Phillipines, and you can read the story and see photos from the visit inside. This is where he was also able to purchase the cover art for this issue from Dandy.
As you can read in the editorial of this issue, Paper Chained is also hosting our third art exhibition, showing the works of Mohannah Al Azzeh, a former political prisoner in Israel who was interviewed back in Issue 16. The exhibition will be held from November 20-30 at The Creator Incubator in Newcastle, NSW, with a launch party to be held on November 22. See the gallery website for more details. At the exhibition you'll be able to see artworks Mohannad actually made inside prison, which had to be smuggled out as Palestinians incarcerated by Israel are not allowed to make art, and paintings he has made since his release about the PTSD he suffered from torture during his imprisonment.
Read and download the issue for free from our homepage. As always, people are welcome to print and send it to people in custody themselves.
